Chambray

The fashion pack has a certain fascination with working class heroes as of late. Inspiration gathered from guys like Hemingway, Kerouac and nameless men from the Life magazine archives. Not surprisingly, the blue has jumped from the collar of denim workwear coats and into a slew of items cut from lightweight chambray. Kicking Mule Workshop cut the woven fabric, named for a small town in France, into some pricey selvedge boxers. Engineered Garments used it for a pair of slouchy shorts. J.Crew has a few retro shirts, but we dug the driving cap. That said, we don't advocate wearing more than one piece at a time.

  • Chambray's texture comes from weaving alternating threads—a blue warp with a white weft.
